The day is here - welcome to the very first edition of the Hoboken Buzz, where we promise to send you Hoboken happenings & events that you actually care about. Our goal is to foster a deeper sense of connection to the community and help you improve your routine here, all jam packed in a fun, digestible 2x/week newsletter that’ll hit your inbox @ 6am on Mondays & Fridays.

Here we’ll share the weather for today and the next day so you’re always prepared. Mild temps but cloudy vibes coupled with some rain over the next day or two. But don’t worry, we have some indoor events lined up below for tonight.

⚡️ Buzz-Worthy Happenings:

• All is boozy & bright tonight. Backstage Cocktail Lounge & 8th St Tavern have you covered for all of your Monday festive needs:

  • During two seatings @ 6pm + 8:30pm tonight (& 12/16), compete to make the best gingerbread house while enjoying 4 holiday cocktails, hot cocoa, and seasonal light bites. Backstage is turning your date night into a Christmas Spirits Workshop! ($)

  • For a more casual date night, or just a fun evening with friends, 8th Street Tavern is back with their annual ornament decorating on 12/9, 12/11, and 12/18 from 6pm - 10pm. $10/ornament - no need to dust off your craft box - all supplies are provided! ($)

• You’ve heard of Buddy the Elf, but have you heard of Elvis the Elf? Now’s your chance to meet him at the Annual Hoboken Christmas Tree Lighting on Wednesday 12/11 @ 5pm. And who knows, maybe there will be a special appearance from Mr. Claus himself!

• Light up your career path too. The Symposia Community Bookstore will have two career coaches in town on Wednesday 12/11 @ 6pm for a cozy workshop with locals to reflect on 2024, and build towards next steps for a more fulfilling career in 2025. ($)

🚦 The Buzz Stop:

• This isn’t new news, just a friendly reminder to plan ahead. The Hoboken PATH station is closing for 4 weeks 24/7 from 11:59pm on Jan. 30, 2025, until 5am on Feb. 25, 2025. 

  • The good news: the station is 116 years old, and after 116 years, perhaps it could use a ‘lil TLC. 

  • The bad news: you may need a ‘lil extra TLC after your commute during those times.

  • Not so fast, don’t take your work sabbatical just yet! The Port Authority has collaborated with regional transit partners on a contingency plan to give riders additional options during this time. We know it doesn’t completely solve for your commute disruption, but check out the alt travel options here at the bottom of the article.

🏛 Civic Buzz

• Play safe. Mayor Bhalla’s administration has finalized plans to proceed with a new camera system and improved lighting in Church Square Park. Installation of the new system is slated to begin before the end of the year!

🏬 Local Bizz

A pet store staple of Montclair, New Providence, and Summit, L&B Healthy Pet Markets recently opened in Hoboken at 155 4th St. You’ll find the most high quality products for your furry friend, ranging from natural chews & treats to plant-based shampoos.

MAKE IT HAPPEN MONDAY

Remember your routine in the midst of holiday craze

Mondays are a great time to get your routine in check. Today we’re here with some beauty & wellness reminders before your busy holiday schedules take over! Here’s some goodies:

• European Wax Center - for all of your waxing needs, request Maggie she’s the best.

• Salon Gatto - reminder to make yourself a hair appointment for those holiday parties you have coming up. They book out fast!

• Studio 17 - facials, fillers, and beyond - permission to treat yourself, especially as they are running their 12 Days of Christmas special until December 12th. See their Instagram for those specials!

Helpful tip: we sat down and blocked off days this month where we won’t make any social plans, because the plan is to focus on holiday shopping and getting our holiday routines in order. We find that it always helps to plan ahead, so that we are able to enjoy the important moments during the holidays with our friends and family.

• What better way to start the day than with a craft & a book? Head over to the Hoboken Public Library Grand St. Branch on Tuesday, 12/10 from 10:30am - 11:30am for a drop-in story and winter sweater craft with your toddler.
